Easy has a Big chance of collecting in Cesarewitch
The big betting race of the day is the Betfred Cesarewitch at Newmarket (3.50), and Big Easy is fancied to provide trainer Philip Hobbs with his second winner in the 2m 6f handicap.
Hobbs saddled Detroit City to win the race in 2006, and in Big Easy has a useful hurdler who made a very encouraging return to the level when runner-up over course and distance last month.
The seven-year-old stayed on strongly to go down by a neck to See And Be Seen and was gaining hand over fist at the finish.
It was a cracking effort given that it was Big Easy’s first run for 133 days, and the son Of Ransom Of War is entitled to com
e on significantly for the outing.
Big Easy is also due to up 3lb for that run, but is able to race off an unchanged mark of 87 in this.
It makes the gelding, who has been rated as high as 138 over the obstacles, look nicely in at the weights and connections are also now fitting Big Easy with blinkers for the first time.
Another plus is that Big Easy ahd bagged a great draw in stall 2, and with Tom Queally in the saddle everything looks in place for a huge run.
The obvious danger to Big Easy is Irish raider Quick Jack.
The five-year-old scored four times over hurdles and on the level in the second half of 2013, and continued his progress with a comfortable three length success in a 2m handicap at the Galway Festival on his return to action in July after a lengthy break.
Quick Jack has to shoudler 9lb more in this more competitive contest, but he is trained by the ultra shrewd Tont Martin whose runners always command the utmost respect in races of this nature.
Martin also knows what is needed to win the race having saddled Leg Spinner to win in 2007, and the booking of champion jockey Richard Hughes to do the steering suggests connections mean business.
Another worthy of consideration is the John Quinn trained Moidore who finished a creditble 10th in last year’s renewal and is now able to race off 4lb lower.
The five-year-old has not been at his best in his last two starts on quick ground, but had previously won well on soft going over 2m at Newcastle and if the rains arrive the son of Galileo would be a major player on the pick of his form.
