Kempton Preview: Jazz Master ready to call the tune

| 08.10.2014

Jazz Master has a good record at Kempton and can further enhance it with success in the 1m 3f handicap there this evening (7.55).

The Luca Cumani trained gelding has notched both career successes over course and distance, with the last of those coming off a mark of 82 when staying on well to beat Noble Protector by 1 1/4 lengths.

The four-year-old now gets into this off just 2lb higher, having run well to make the frame in his first three starts this season.

In the first of those, Jazz Master finished a 2 1/2 length second to Arab Spring off level weights in a competitive handicap at Doncaster when running of a rating of 85.

The winner is a really useful sort who has gone on to score twice since and is now rated 112, and that makes Jazz Master look well-treated in this class 3 contest.

Although Jazz Master was not at his best last time out when seventh of nine to Famous Kid over course and distance, the son of Singspiel was totally unsuited by the race being run at a slow pace and can bounce back in the hands of Andrea Atzeni.

The Paul Cole trained Secret Success is another with a terrific record at the track and looks the one to beat in the 7f handicap (8.55).

The gelding has won three of his six starts at the venue, including twice over this evening’s trip, and comes into the contest after bouncing back from two below par efforts to land a 7f contest at Lingfield.

Secret Success made all to score with a bit more in hand than the 3/4 of a length winning margin suggests, and a 4lb rise may not be enough to stop him going in again now returned to his favourite stomping ground.

In the 7f handicap (9.25), Rasselas is a fascinating contender on his first start for trainer Mick Appleby.

Appleby does well with horse he inherits, and Rasselas is dangerously well-treated now switched back to the all-weather surface.

The seven-year-old has already won twice this season when in the care of Dandy Nicholls and is able to race off 11b lower than when notching the last of those succeses at Carlisle back in August.
