Matt Chapman 6/1 to add a touch of gloss to C4 Racing
Coral are offering odds on a new face joining the Channel 4 Racing team, and make Matt Chapman a 6/1 chance to work as presenter or pundit on its afternoon racing coverage in 2015.
Chapman, famous for his shouts of “Yeeehaaa” whilst working as a presenter on At The Races, has made no secret of the fact that it would be a dream position for him.
However he did not even get an interview when he asked the channel to consider him for a position when they won the contract from the BBC, and was told bluntly that his style was not suitable.
That may well be down to the fact that he is outspoken, doesn’t sit on the fence, and is not scared of making his views known.
It is a style which some like while others loath, but there is no doubting that Chapman is a a top TV presenter and on course reporter who would add a much need touch of colour to C4’s coverage.
So with Clare Balding deciding to cut back on appearances on the channel in 2015 and present at only the Cheltenham Festival and Royal Ascot, Chapman could well be a bit of value at the 6/1 on offer to get a call-up.
Others priced up by Coral to work a a presenter or pundit for C4 racing as part of their New Year betting specials are Oli Bell, Derek Thomspon and Mike Cattermole.
Bell (5/2), covered a variety of racing and sporting events before moving into television and joining Racing UK in 2006.
After spending two years in Sydney fronting the International racing coverage on Sky Australia, he is now back with the channel and working as one of the main presenters.
Derek “Tommo” Thompson (16/1) joined the C4 Racing team in 1985 but was axed in October 2012 as part of a shake-up when production of the programme moved from High Flyer to IMG.
He is now mainly a racecourse commentator, and also sometimes presents on ATR and Radio Five Live.
Cattermole (12/1) was also dropped by C4 at the same time as Thompson, and is now a presenter on ATR as well as a racecourese commentator.
