Corinthians offer Alexandre Pato to relegation-threatened QPR

CORAL ENHANCED ACCAS

QPR, even-money with Coral to stay up, have been offered the chance to sign Brazilian striker Alexandre Pato from South American outfit Corinthians, with his parent club keen to offload the former AC Milan marksman.

The 25-year-old, who was once hailed as the next big star of the San Siro, is currently on loan from Corinthians at fellow Brazilian team Sao Paulo, but could reportedly make a move to West London in this winter transfer window.

Pato’s capture would prove a genuine masterstroke for Harry Redknapp’s relegation-battling side, with his men fighting an immediate return to the Championship after falling to 19th place in the Premier League, one point adrift of safety.

Former Rossoneri revelation Pato has netted 12 times in 30 appearances during his loan spell at Sao Paolo, since joining earlier this year, and his acquisition could bolster the Hoops’ chances of securing top-flight status for next season.

After a stuttering progression, having burst on to the scene at a young age, potent Pato could finally reignite his career at the highest level of club football with a switch to Loftus Road.

QPR may look to fund the Brazilian’s arrival by offloading £65k-a-week want-away star Adel Taarabt to wealthy Dubai based club Al-Ahli. However, the Moroccan midfielder has reportedly outlined Italy as his preferred destination, having previously returned from a loan stint at Pato’s former club Milan.

The former Brazilian wonderkid shot to stardom in 2007, joining the Serie A giants as one of Europe’s hottest prospects, but in 2012 returned to his native homeland where his career has continued to flounder.

Although, a move to London could boost both the Hoops’ survival chances and Pato’s lacklustre career, with the Premier League strugglers becoming heavily reliant on Englishman Charlie Austin to carry the goalscoring burden.

In Italy’s 2008/09 campaign the Samba star was Milan’s top-scorer with 18 goals, also earning himself the 2009 Serie A Young Footballer of the Year.

Pato, nicknamed ‘the Duck’, has had his development hampered by injuries but he could fit the bill perfectly at Loftus Road, as Redknapp aims to steer clear of troubled water and keep the Hoops afloat in the relegation scrap.

QPR are odds-on 8/11 to go down, having not picked up a victory in any of their last five domestic league fixtures.
