Arsenal aiming to recruit young Lyon attacker Nabil Fekir
Premier League odds-on top four chances Arsenal (4/9 with Coral) are reportedly already eyeing up new recruits ahead of the summer, with Lyon’s newest star Nabil Fekir, rated at £25m, reportedly on Arsene Wenger’s wishlist.
The 21-year-old has highly impressed in his breakthrough season, getting 10 goals in 23 domestic games, and playing a big part in the former French giants’ rise to the top of Ligue 1 this term. On top of that, he provided a further seven assists.
Fekir, who is of Algerian heritage but born in Lyon, has been used in attacking midfield and centre forward roles this season. He is somewhat of a lucky charm for the Kids too, as he has missed out on just four games in Ligue 1 this campaign, with his team losing three of them and drawing the other. With Fekir in the side, they have had just one defeat.
Lyon, though, are moving into a new 60k seater stadium in the summer, and the club’s president Jean-Michel Aulas has said he will keep their most promising starlets.
However, the ground is reportedly costing around €250m, and it is said that the Kids could be willing to part with Fekir if the money is right. Ligue 1 giants PSG are also rumoured suitors of the diminutive France Under-21 international, as they require a change of recruitment policy because of Financial Fair Play restrictions.
If Fekir were to move to Arsenal, he would have the likes of compatriots Olivier Giroud, Mathieu Flamini, Mathieu Debuchy, Laurent Koscielny, Abou Diaby and Francis Coquelin, as well as boss Wenger, to make him feel more at home.
The Gunners are also looking for more strike power, with players such as Giroud, Theo Walcott and even Alexis Sanchez suffering from injury this term. Danny Welbeck’s goals, meanwhile, have seemingly dried up, and he has faced a spell on the sidelines too.
But Wenger, whose team are 12/5 favourites to win the FA Cup, may decide to play Fekir a bit further back as well, if signed, and he could be a potential replacement for Tomas Rosicky and Santi Cazorla, who are not getting any younger.
