Coral’s Premier League team of matchweek 26: Midfield goals galore

| 23.02.2015

Another weekend of awesome Premier League action has passed us by, but here at Coral we like to recognise the contributions made by players who have helped win points.

And what do points makes? Prizes! Title triumphs, European football for next season and safety from relegation. Our football experts have got their heads together and picked the latest team of the week! Who makes it in? Read on to discover!

Goalkeeper: Simon Mignolet
A rare clean sheet for Reds stopper Mignolet against a European rival in Southampton gets him the nod. Liverpool are now 15/8 chances to crash the top four.

Right back: Branislav Ivanovic
Chelsea’s Serbian defender struck for the fourth time in six matches in a home draw with Burnley, and is becoming as prolific as some of the great goal-getters up from the back.

Centre back: Dejan Lovren
Shutting out the Saints to secure a win for Brendan Rodgers on the south coast had even more significance for Croatia centre back Lovren, as it came against his former club.

Centre back: Martin Skrtel
That Liverpool presence continues in defence with Slovakia’s Skrtel, who shackled Southampton striker Graziano Pelle superbly.

Left back: Ben Mee
Netting an equaliser at Stamford Bridge was Mee, a youth product of Manchester City. In Clarets colours, he has handed his old club a lifeline in the title race by pinching a point for Sean Dyche off Chelsea.

Defensive midfield: Ki Sung-Yueng
Swansesa City doing the double over Manchester United came in no small part thanks to South Korea skipper Ki. He scored both home and away against the Red Devils this season.

Defensive midfield: Cheikhou Kouyate
BT Sport pundit-cum-commentator Michael Owen gave Senegal shield Kouyate the Man of the Match award in West Ham United’s 2-2 London derby draw at Tottenham. His powerful header helped the Hammers stay in the hunt for Europe, and they are 11/1 for a top six finish.

Attacking midfield: Philippe Coutinho
An absolute screamer from Brazilian creative force Coutinho gave Liverpool an early lead at Southampton that they never surrendered. Expect this long-range strike to feature in Goal of the Month competitions.

Attacking midfield: Jonjo Shelvey
Swans midfielder Shelvey set up both goals as the Welsh side completed a league double over Man Utd. With Gylfi Sigurdsson shunted out to the wing, the ex-Liverpool man starred in the number 10 position.

Attacking midfield: David Silva
A brace against a woeful Newcastle United, plus an assist, from silky Spaniard Silva means he is now having his best ever scoring season in the Premier League. Manchester City have closed the gap on Chelsea in the title race, and the champions are now a tasty 10/3 to retain.

Striker: Dame N’Doye
Senegal frontman N’Doye scored for the second successive Premier League game, and his home winner for Hull City against QPR has handed Steve Bruce a huge boost in the survival scrap. The Tigers have drifted to 4/1 for relegation as a result of this 2-1 victory.
