Five European based stars to replace Santi Cazorla at Arsenal
With news emerging that Santi Cazorla has reportedly agreed a pre-contract agreement with Atletico Madrid, Coral compile five names who could effectively replace the Spaniard, who has been arguably the Gunners’ most consistent player in recent matches.
The 30-year-old has six goals and seven assists for Arsenal this season, who are 15/8 to retain the FA Cup, though most of these have come since the start of the new year.
With the likes of Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo, James Rodriguez, Jese Rodriguez and Karim Benzema all competing for attacking roles, Isco may be surplus to requirements. The Gunners already have a relationship with Los Blancos and could be tempted by a reasonable offer. He has been linked previously and would be a natural replacement for Cazorla.
Roma playmaker Pjanic could be tempted to make a move if a bid was made. Relatively versatile, the talented 24-year-old can play in any of the three positions behind the lone striker, or deeper, and would fit into Arsenal’s style of play.
Linked with Arsenal 12 months ago, the German was said to be keen on a move to the Gunners, though Schalke were quoting his buyout clause of £37m which the Gunners weren’t prepared to pay then. However, Arsene Wenger remains a big fan and could be convinced this time around.
The Colombian was said to be interesting the north London club recently and, if Cazorla does leave, Arsenal could be tempted to make a move in the summer, if they are quoted the right place. In 24 appearances this season for Porto across all competitions, Quintero has scored three goals and provided seven assists.
Staying in Portugal, Benfica’s Gaitan could certainly do a job. The Argentinian has contributed four goals and 11 assists in 17 league appearances, and at 26, may be ready to make the step up.
