Chelsea stopper Petr Cech poised for Stamford Bridge departure

CORAL ENHANCED ACCAS

Premier League leaders Chelsea are on the verge of losing veteran goalkeeper Petr Cech this summer, after the Czech Republic international indicated his lack of desire to remain as an understudy to current club number one Thibaut Courtois.

The 32-year-old is currently preparing for his country’s Euro 2016 qualifier encounter with Latvia, and they are 6/4 with Coral to win Group A, having climbed to a dominant position at the table’s summit, three points ahead of closest challengers Iceland.

Jose Mourinho’s Blues have benefited from the luxury of having two world class goalkeepers in their ranks this current campaign, but Belgium first-choice stopper Courtois has been declared as the club’s recognised number one.

Cech’s current role is an unfamiliar one during his 11-year career at Stamford Bridge, and the experienced goalkeeper is keen to not experience another season as second-choice.

“I don’t know what the club’s idea will be. It looks like it works well with me and Thibaut as a duo,” said Cech.

“But that can work for one season only. I don’t want another one like this.”

The former Rennes shot stopper has incredibly won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups and a single Champions League medal during his illustrious career, but he has alerted top European clubs such as Real Madrid with his recent remarks.

“There always will be speculation, I leave it for the summer,” he continued.

“It will be important to sit down with the club, with the manager, to consider all the pros and cons. We will see what will work out the best.

“When a specific offer comes I will consider it. There are offers one cannot turn down.”

The sensational stopper has been a great servant to the Blues, and has won plenty of individual honours, having been awarded with the top-flight’s golden gloves on three occasions, including last term when he held the joint best goalkeeping record with Arsenal’s Wojciech Szczesny.

Reigning Champions League winners Madrid are keen to acquire the services of a new long-term goalkeeper, after the rapid decline in form of club icon Iker Casillas, and they have also been heavily linked with Manchester United’s David De Gea.

The Spaniard would be a substantially more expensive signing at the Bernabeu, but Cech could provide Real with an extremely composed and experienced goalkeeper for many more seasons, if the Czech Republic international decides to leave London.

Carlo Ancelotti’s Galacticos are 4/1 to retain their European crown in Berlin later this year.
