Arsenal eyeing Valencia contract rebel Jose Luis Gaya
FA Cup odds-on favourites Arsenal (4/5 with Coral) are reportedly set to make a summer move for teenage Valencia left back Jose Luis Gaya, who has turned down a new contract.
The highly promising Spaniard, who still has over three years left on his current Los Che deal, has played a big part in his side’s impressive season to date, having featured in all but one La Liga match, which he was suspended for.
Valencia are currently way up in third place, a point ahead of defending champions Atletico Madrid and eight behind leaders Barcelona, after 28 games, and are outside 500/1 chances to win the title for the first time since 2003/04.
The Bats are heavily odds-on at 1/6 to finish in the top four, meanwhile, and are tempting 7/2 shouts in the outright betting without Real and Barca.
Such has been the rise in Gaya’s profile, since making his debut first team appearance three seasons ago, that he has earned three Spain Under-21 caps, despite still being just 19, and has also been linked with a move to Real Madrid.
But if Arsene Wenger is to win the race to sign the Spaniard, it is said he will have to pay for £13.6m, which the Frenchman may see as being to high in price for a player so young and largely untested out of his home nation.
Should Arsenal make a move, it could signal the end for another Spanish left back Nacho Monreal at the Emirates, with the 16-capped international failing to fully impress. England’s Kieran Gibbs is the competition for a starting birth.
The Gunners are currently enjoying a decent season themselves this term, as they are up in third and just a point off title holders Manchester City now, after a terrific run of six straight wins. They are also heavily odds-on at 1/14 to finish in the Champions League places, though face a tricky upcoming test against Liverpool.
Arsenal are odds-on at 5/6 to beat the Reds in the Premier League clash of the weekend.
