Everton and Hammers admiring Beauvue after Guingamp goals
Premier League top half hopefuls Everton (odds-on at 1/2 with Coral) and West Ham United (an even-money chance in that market) reportedly have Guingamp goal-getter Claudio Beauvue on their respective radars this summer, following his scoring exploits in the Europa League and Ligue 1.
Born in Guadeloupe, 27-year-old Beauvue has netted 24 in 48 appearances across all competitions this term, and his mid-table employers could well decide to cash in on their prized asset.
Beauvue himself has made it clear the Premier League appeals to him. “The deal I had with the club president was that I would leave in the event of a beautiful season,” he told French radio.
“The season has been very beautiful, so it is sure that I will be playing my football elsewhere next season… and it is true though that I am very attracted to the Premier League.”
Brilliant Beauvue is also an attractive prospect himself, posting fantastic form in cup competitions especially. Netting nine in 13 Europa League and Coupe de France fixtures are supplemented by 14 domestic league strikes and one in the French league cup.
Both the Hammers hierarchy and Toffees boss Roberto Martinez are understood to be keen on recruiting attacking reinforcements for next term, where both are expected to push for European football.
West Ham are set to lose two of their attacking options, Carlton Cole and Nene, as they are out of contract at Upton Park this summer. Everton, meanwhile, are heavily reliant on Romelu Lukaku up front and need an alternative to Arouna Kone, who has not been a regular despite recovering from a serious knee injury.
Beauvue has taken a circuitous route to potential stardom, following a youth spell at Nantes and then senior football at Troyes, Chateauroux and Bastia before going to Guingamp, who won the Coupe de France last term.
