Jurgen Klopp to Manchester City? Five potential Bundesliga raids

| 16.04.2015

Having announced that he is leaving Borussia Dortmund, speculation begins as to where Jurgen Klopp will go to next, with Manchester City 6/4 favourites with Coral.

In the last few weeks there has been speculation that a number of Man City players could well be culled when the season comes to a close.

Should Klopp replace Manuel Pellegrini, who is widely speculated to be leaving after a campaign in which he hasn’t been able to motivate a credible title push or Champions League challenge, there may well be a number of changes.

This has had Coral writers speculating on whether Klopp could return to the Bundesliga to recruit a number of players and, with that in mind, we discuss the possibilities that may be open to him.

Robert Lewandowski
There have been differing reports about whether the previously prolific Pole is happy about life at Bayern Munich, who he joined on a free from Dortmund in the summer. A link-up with former manager Klopp, who discovered him, at a club like Man City, may be too good to refuse.

He could form a flourishing partnership with Sergio Aguero in attack with the Argentina international possibly operating in behind him. Landing Lewandowski would definitely represent a signal of intent.

Lars Bender
With box-to-box midfielder Yaya Toure widely potentially to be on his way out of the Etihad, the Bayer Leverkusen player could be a perfect replacement, offering a good balance between defence and attack. At just 25, and also German, he definitely has the potential to be a big part of the club’s future.

Roberto Firmino
Hoffenheim’s highly talented Brazil international attacker Firmino will undoubtedly be on a number of football clubs’ summer wishlists, especially after his recent goal for his country against Chile at the Emirates.

He could definitely form part of a potent attacking trident behind one striker, or even operate as a false nine, giving the team versatility.

Kevin De Bruyne
A link which will not go away, with Klopp installed as manager, he will have his own ideas on how to utilise the player, having seen him play in the Bundesliga over the last two seasons.

The Belgian has scored nine goals, though more crucially contributed 18 assists this term, across all competitions and would be a great replacement for Samir Nasri, who could be on his way out. Edin Dzeko could act as a makeweight in any potential deal, rejoining his former club.

Niklas Sule
Big things are expected from this 19-year-old centre back. City have recruited a couple of young defenders over the years; first Stefan Savic, who subsequently moved to Fiorentina, while the jury is still out on Matija Nastasic, who has left for Schalke.

Klopp, though, will be aware of what the youngster can do, and if he, like many agree that Sule has a bright future, might be tempted to take a punt on him. A player-plus-cash deal might be an option with the two players swapping clubs, might be a viable option.

Ricardo Rodriguez
Reportedly on the hunt for a first-choice left back, this Swiss star would definitely fit the bill. Although Rodriguez only recently signed a new contract, Wolfsburg could be tempted to sell if they receive the right offer, and if the player’s head gets turned enough.
