Can Klopp continue season turnaround in Der Klassiker with Bayern?

| 04.04.2015
CORAL ENHANCED ACCAS

Despite sitting in 10th pace in the Bundesliga, Borussia Dortmund are one of the in-form teams in the German top flight, as they are undefeated in their last seven, winning five.

It marks a sensational season turnaround, as Jurgen Klopp’s men were languishing at the foot of the table during the Christmas break, although a top four berth seems slightly out of reach, as they sit 12 points behind.

But Borussia (12/5 for victory) now face Bayern Munich (11/10 favourites with Coral) in Der Klassiker, in the hope of inflicting defeat on their bitter rivals, who are currently 10 points clear at the top.

But Bayern lost last time out in the Bundesliga, to Borussia Monchengladbach, and will need to be wary of closest challengers Wolfsburg, who have enjoyed a terrific term to date.

Dortmund and Bayern have already met twice this term in all competitions, with both beating the other, so a draw this time at 12/5 could be a decent bet to take.

Klopp’s men were 2-0 winners in the pre-season German Super Cup, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan being on target. They are respective 11/5 and 5/2 chances to net anytime again. Star attacker Marco Reus, meanwhile, scored in their 2-1 league loss at the Allianz Arena, and he is also 11/5 in the same market.

For Bayern, Dortmund old boy Robert Lewandowski came back to haunt them in that fixture as he netted a 72nd-minute equaliser. The prolific Pole is 7/4 to inflict more misery on his former side again, by getting a goal anytime. Another ex-Borussia star, Mario Gotze, meanwhile, is a 2/1 chance.

But Pep Guardiola will be without two of his star wingers in Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben, as well as David Alaba and Javi Martinez, for this clash, so the visitors will not be a potent in attack.

Speaking ahead of the game, Klopp said: “We’ve got to try to beat Bayern and where that can take us in the league is secondary.

“Although we’re 10th, and although there’s a huge points gap between us (31), and although a lot is different compared to the past, it’s still a Borussia Dortmund home game.

“I don’t recall us gifting any of these games in the past.

“Gladbach have shown us how it’s done,” he added. “Wolfsburg have also beaten them [4-1], but it’s not all that easy.”
