Sturdy Sampdoria travel to Tuscany to face Florentine foes

| 04.04.2015

Sampdoria will arrive at the Stadio Artemi Franchi aiming to put an end to their Tuscan troubles. The brilliant Blucerchiati have not beaten high-flying Fiorentina (odds-on at 8/11 to win with Coral) on the road since 2004, failing to fluster the Florentine outfit in their last eight away attempts.

There is more than just pride and points at stake in this duel, however, as both teams are still very much in the race for a top three spot.

Rafa Benitez’s Napoli sit between fourth placed Samp and Serie A’s sixth side the Viola, but face a tricky away test in the Eternal City against Roma. This means the victor of this tussle could potentially end Easter weekend putting real pressure on third from top Lazio.

Former Fiorentina tactician Sinisa Mihajlovic brings his Blucerchiati boys to his old club, after putting three past Vincenzo Montella’s men in the reverse fixture in Genoa, so Samp are superb value at 3/1 to score two or more again.

Having romped to four Serie A triumphs on the trot, including wins against giants Roma and Inter Milan, the visitors are 4/1 to take all three points in Tuscany. Samp’s away from should be a concern, though, as while the Blucerchiati are unbeaten at home, all four of their defeats have occurred on their travels.

With only domestic football to focus on, unlike Fiorentina, the in-form Genoese club should still snatch a result, and are 5/2 to split the spoils.

Brazil-born Italy international Eder struck the fatal blow last time out at Inter, and is 13/5 to be on target again anytime, or 15/2 to get poaching proceedings underway in the Tuscan capital.

Azzurri attacker Eder will likely be partnered by Samuel Eto’o, who is a sensational 7/2 to draw a line under the clash and score last, while Colombian starlet Luis Muriel has netted twice in his past four outings, and is 14/5 to contribute anytime.

Hosts Viola have come unstuck in the league of late, with the weight of being involved in three competitions taking its toll. Ex-Samp striker Montella and his Florence outfit will be wary of taking their eye of the ball here, then.

The Tuscan team could secure Champions League football for next season by lifting the Europa League, but cannot afford to put all their eggs in one basket.

Beaten just once in their last 18 across all competitions, and undefeated at home since December, fabulous Fiorentina are 15/2 to repeat last term’s triumphant 2-1 result in this fixture.

German marksman Mario Gomez bagged a brace last time out, and is 5/1 to score two or more again, or 4/1 to fire home first for the hosts. Meanwhile, Chelsea-owned Mohamed Salah is a nifty 9/5 in the anytime market and the Egypt attacker should punish the guests with his pace.
