Coral preview the David Cameron derby as Villa take on West Ham

| 09.05.2015

Coral writers preview two of Saturday’s 3pm fixtures, as Midlands clubs Aston Villa and Stoke City welcome London outfits West Ham United and Tottenham respectively.

The Villans’ fixture with the Hammers is significant for another reason outside of football, as it comes just after David Cameron and his Conservatives were elected into power.

Retaining Prime Minister Cameron is a renowned Villa fan, but was recently caught out after mistakenly saying he supported West Ham, therefore this fixture is being dubbed as the ‘Cameron derby’.

Aston Villa v West Ham
Tim Sherwood has made a noticeable difference since taking over at Villa Park, leading them to the FA Cup final, and 14th place in the Premier League with three games to go. However, his team are far from safe, as they sit just two points above the drop zone, and will be looking to win here to ease the pressure.

Aston Villa are the odds-on favourites for victory, although have not beaten the Hammers (3/1 chances) in three previous meetings.

A draw at 12/5 could be a tempting result, given that this duo have managed two goalless results in their last three head-to-heads. You can back that scoreline again at 10/1.

One player that Sherwood can count on for this match is in-form Belgium star Christian Benteke, who has netted an incredible 10 goals in his last eight matches. The striker scored in this fixture two seasons ago, so is odds-on at 10/11 to strike anytime here again, and 4/1 for two or more.

Alan Hutton, Scott Sinclair and Gabriel Agbonlahor could all return for this crunch clash too, and the latter is 7/4 in the anytime market.

For the vistors, Kevin Nolan bagged a brace in this fixture last term, and is an enticing 5/1 shout to score anytime once more.

Stoke City v Tottenham
With Spurs (6/4 slight favourites) now seven points off the top four, and Stoke (7/4) in the top half of the table, neither side has much to fight for anymore this season. Although they will still be looking to ensure they stay in the Europa League places and top 10 respectively.

The Potters claimed a memorable away win at Tottenham earlier this term, with Jon Walters effectively getting the winner, and the Republic of Ireland international is 2/1 to strike anytime again.

Bojan Krcic got the other goal for Mark Hughes’ men that day, but is still out injured with a serious knee problem. However, another ex-Barcelona star is fit to return in defender Marc Muniesa.

Tottenham and Harry Kane have tailed off in recent weeks, with the north Londoners winning just two of their last seven in the league, but the young England star striker will be looking to get back to scoring form. You can back him at 5/4 to net anytime, and 7/1 to bag a brace or better.
