Duckworth-Lewis again under scrutiny ahead of England v NZ 3rd ODI

England’s One Day International (ODI) series with New Zealand is tied at a win apiece following the tourists’ 13-run victory via the Duckworth-Lewis method at The Oval on Friday.
Coral make the hosts 6/5 chances to once again take the lead, but the Kiwis are odds-on 4/6 favourites to come from behind and go 2-1 up.
Eoin Morgan, England’s ODI skipper, has weighed in on the debate surrounding the Duckworth-Lewis method and he suspects it will be altered. “Personally I think Duckworth-Lewis will change as the game evolves,” he said. “That’s something that potentially could be looked at. Everything else in the game has changed.”
Coincidentally, Morgan was best England batsman last time out after smashing 88 off 47 balls, and will be expected to lead by example in this fashion again at Hampshire’s Ageas Bowl ground.
Odds of 9/2 say he will top score for the hosts, and there’s also the same price available on him getting the most runs of this ODI. There’s also a tasty 10/1 wincast featuring England and Morgan being their best batsman.
It’s Jos Buttler that has scored the most runs for the hosts in this One Day series so far, however, with a total of 170. He’s a 7/1 shot to be best England batsman during the third ODI.
From a bowling perspective, Steven Finn has five New Zealand wickets across the first two clashes of the series. He’s 4/1 to take the most again, having notched four for just 35 in the opener. Fantastic Finn is also 13/2 to be best bowler and England are victorious.
Morgan’s Kiwi counterpart Brendon McCullum, available at 7/1 in an enhanced wincast to be best New Zealand batsman and his side to win (max stake £20), was complimentary about England’s improvement following a disastrous World Cup earlier this year.
“This England team are playing a completely different brand of cricket to what they’ve played in recent times,” McCullum said.
Number four batsman Ross Taylor has been the Kiwis’ top scorer in both ODIs so far, and produced an unbeaten 119 at The Oval. To be best for his country again, he’s a nifty 9/2 chance.
With six wickets over the opening One Day Internationals, Trent Boult is a superb 7/2 to take the most again in this match.
