Chepstow Preview: Mendacious Harpy to Land on Comeback

| 24.07.2015

Mendacious Harpy it taken to land the first handicap on the Chepstow card this evening. The Chepstow Fillies’ Handicap (6.20) is a class five contest over seven furlongs and the selection has what it takes to land this type of race.

She’s coming off a 270-day break so you have to take it on confidence that she will be fit and primed to be able to contend. She has performed well at today’s trip of seven furlongs and she clearly handles the ground having run respectably on anything from heavy to good. She will appreciate the cut in the ground and could be well treated off a mark of 67.

The form of her very last run has worked out reasonably well with the second having gone on to land a double off 73 and 79 whilst the winner went in again off a mark of 60. A mark of 67 is probably where the handicapper wants Mendacious Harpy but given she’s had a long break she could well have improved and if fully fit for this she should have a great chance of getting her head out in front.

Dusty Blue can advantage of a low mark and take the 7.50 at Chepstow this evening.

The chestnut filly was well beaten last time out at Leicester but she probably needed that run given she was returning from a small break. Luke Morris has a good strike rate when partnering up with Tony Carroll and he can make his presence felt having won on the filly earlier this year.

She’s performed very well on the all-weather throughout her first winter and at the age of three she has plenty of improvement to come. She’s won off a mark of 70 on the all-weather and if she can transfer that form to the turf then she has a live chance off 68.

There is some decent opposition in the field with Bonjour Steve currently vying for favouritism with She’s Invincible. The former doesn’t appear to be as good over five furlongs having been far more successful at six and seven so Dusty Blue is worth a chance currently priced as the outsider of the six runners.

She comes with plenty of risks but the straight five at Chepstow should suit her well if she can be tucked in behind before being delivered late. A mark of 68 is workable and she should be much sharper today given the run earlier in the month.
