Coral celebrates 40 years of Eclipse sponsorship with first ever Instragram horse race

| 02.07.2015

This Saturday (4th July) Coral is staging the first ever horse race on Instagram celebrating  40 years of the Group 1 horse race, The Coral-Eclipse Stakes at Sandown.

Coral, in partnership with Race Modlr, will run a virtual “Coral-Eclipse Legends” horse race across their Instagram feed featuring ten of the greatest horses that have won the Coral-Eclipse over the last forty years.

The move comes after recent results show approximately 60% of online betting in the UK is now done via a mobile device and according to Juniper Research, more than £27 billion in sports bets will be placed via mobile by 2017.

An edited version of the race will first appear on Instagram at 10am on Saturday, after which it will be broadcast on Racing UK between 11am and Noon, and then on the big screen at Sandown Park from Noon onwards.

All week Coral has been running a competition inviting racing fans and customers to predict which horses will finish in the first three places in the virtual “Coral-Eclipse Legends” race in the correct order.

“We are thrilled to be celebrating the fortieth birthday of our sponsorship of this historic, top class horse race, and wanted to come up with an innovative and modern way to mark the occasion and remember some of the great horses that have won our race over the last forty years,” explained Simon Clare, Coral PR Director.

“88% of our social media community are experiencing the Coral brand through their smartphones and as a format video allows us to deliver a much richer and immersive experience. With the objective of bringing the Coral-Eclipse to a new generation of horse racing enthusiast’s we will be screening a special 15 second bespoke edit of the virtual race on Instagram,” said Tania Seif, Head of Coral Social Media.

Race Modlr has created a Coral-Eclipse legends simulation featuring ten of the best horses to win the race between 1976 and 2015.

Coral has compiled theoretical prices for the race.
