Sandown preview: Tigers Tale ticks all the right boxes

| 15.07.2015

Tigers Tale has some top class form to his name, and can take advantage of an ease in grade to register a deserved victory in the 1m handicap on this evening’s card at Sandown (19.50).

The Roger Teale trained gelding has been knocking on the door in hot handicaps, including when third three starts back over course and distance when beaten just 1/2 a length by Jacob Black in a race which has worked out well.

Tigers Tale has since run well in two class 2 contests, and the form of the last of those at Salisbury reads particularly well in the context of this lower grade class 3 affair.

The six-year-old kept on well to finish a 2 3/4 length fourth of 10 to Lightning Spear, and the winner is a very useful sort who has gone on to finish a cracking 1 1/2 length second to Arod in a Group 2 contest at Ascot.

In the circumstances it was a cracking effort by Tigers Tale, and he is able to race in this off an unchanged mark of 89.

That is just 1lb higher than when last successful, and gives the son of Tiger Hill major claims from a handicapping perspective.

Connections are also now fitting Tigers Tale with the cheekpieces for the first time, and if they have the desired effect he looks weighted to take all the beating.

In the 1m 6f that closes proceedings (20.50), Mythical Moment looks thrown-in under a 6lb penalty following a runaway success at Carlisle six days ago.

King George Sunday

The William Haggas trained colt turned the contest into a procession, travelling strongly throughout before taking up the running two out and surging clear to score by 3 1/4 lengths.

Mythical Moment won with any amount in hand, and it’s no surprise to see connections turn him out quickly before his revised mark kicks-in.

The son of Authorized is race off a rating of 75 in future engagements, and even with the penalty gets in this off 72.

That makes him 3lb “well-in” at the weights, and suggests that the lightly-raced and progressive Mythical Moment is going to be very hard to beat in the hands of in-form jockey Pat Cosgrave.
