Gers gunning for 200th win over Scottish Championship rivals Hibs

| 23.08.2015

In 344 meetings in all competitions between current Scottish Championship duo Rangers and Hibernian, who are usually more associated with being Premiership clubs, the former have triumphed 199 times, so back them odds-on at 8/13 with Coral for victory again.

The reviving Glasgow giants also recently smashed their Edinburgh rivals this season under new boss Mark Warburton, formerly of Brentford, in the Scottish Challenge Cup 6-2 away with striking duo Martyn Waghorn and Kenny Miller both bagging braces.

You can back them at even-money and 6/5 respectively to net anytime again, or 5/1 and 6/1 for two or more. English-born goalscoring midfielder Nicky Law, meanwhile, is a 7/2 shout in the anytime market.

However, while Gers beat Hibs three times last term in all competitions, they lost the other four including both times at home in the regular league season. The visitors, therefore, are tempting 17/4 chances to triumph or 3/1 to get a draw.

Young Scot Jason Cummings is there main man up top, as the 20-year-old hit four past Rangers last term, and slotted a penalty against them in the 6-2 cup loss at the end of July. He is a tempting 2/1 shout in the anytime market here too.

The most common result last term was 2-0 (three times), so Rangers’ odds of 15/2 to inflict that scoreline on Hibs again are very enticing to take.

This clash is certainly all set up, with former Celtic centre back Alan Stubbs head coach of the capital club. He has fired up the fixture by claiming that his counterpart Warburton has it easy.

“It’s very easy when you’ve got money to spend to bring in much better players than what was there at the start,” he said.

“Rangers have started the season strongly, they’ve started well. When you buy good players, which they’ve obviously brought in, sometimes it does not necessarily take a long a time [to gel].

“Compared to where they are last season to now, it is a transformation of the squad but they’ve spent a lot of money as well.

“Their start to the season has been very strong – there is no denying that – and we’ve seen from their second half performance against us that when things go their way, they can be a dangerous team,” he added.

“But for the first 45 minutes, if anyone looks at the game, we showed we can be a dangerous team as well.

“I think the most important thing is that we perform and play to the best of our abilities. If we do that then we know we’re capable of getting a result.”
