Chelmsford preview: Khusoosy can kiss rivals goodbye

CORAL ENHANCED ACCAS

Khusoosy has a progressive profile and can defy a further rise in the weights to land the 1m 2f handicap on today’s card at Chelmsford (15.00).

The Saeed bin Suroor trained gelding has won four of his seven starts, and three have come on the polytrack surface.

In the last of those at Kempton, the three-year-old posted a career-best effort when beating Osipova by 3/4 of a length off a mark of 92.

Khusoosy raced keenly, and after tacking up the running two from home only had to be ridden out to score a shade cosily.

To me, the three-year-old was value for more than the winning margin, and a 6lb rise in the weights does not look harsh.

Connections have also partly offset the rise by putting promising 3lb claimer Kevin Stott, and Khusoosy looks the type who should have even more to offer.

The stable are also in good form at present, and everything suggests Khusoosy is going to be tough to beat.

Fossa favoured for 16:30

In the 6f handicap that closes proceedings (16.30), Fossa can take advantage of a drop in the weights to score an overdue success.

The Dean Ivory trained gelding is on a long losing run, having not scored since landing a 7f handicap on the old polytrack surface at Wolverhampton back in September 2013 off a mark of 67.

However, the five-year-old run well to make the frame on two occasions this year – including when a solid third to the thriving French Press over course and distance three starts back off a mark of 63.

Fossa is now able to race off just 60, and that is the lowest rating he has run off in over two years having been rated as high as 73 in that period.

It gives Fossa major claims at the weights on the pick of his form, and with Robert Winston in the saddle the son Dubai Destination looks a big player for a stable that do well with its runners at the venue.
