CORAL ENHANCED ACCAS

As the third Championships get into full swing, At The Races All-Weather expert Simon Mapletoft spotlights three horses in action at Wolverhampton this weekend.

Supersta can strike for Appleby

Leading All-Weather trainer Mick Appleby has earned a reputation for improving other people’s cast offs and looks set to strike with bargain buy SUPERSTA in the 5.40 at Wolverhampton on Friday.

Appleby showed he has found the key to the 4,500gns purchase when he finished powerfully in a seven-furlong handicap at the West Midlands track last week, going down by just a head in a first-time combination of a hood and cheekpieces.

The same headgear remains for this step up to the extended mile and I expect Supersta to confirm the promise of last week’s run in the hands of stable jockey Andrew Mullen.

Farham to make a winning return

Richard Fahey nominated FARHAM as a horse to follow when I caught up with him the other day and has wasted no time in getting Al Shaqab’s lightly raced maiden back on the track.

Farham missed the whole of the last turf season due to foot problems but showed promise as a juvenile and the Malton trainer believes he could be good enough to make his mark in the Mile Championships.

Third in a mile novice event on his second and final start just over a year ago, this relative of a US stakes winner should prove well suited to Tapeta and, though entitled to be sharper for the run, can prove too good for modest opposition in the extended mile maiden (6.40) at Wolverhampton on Friday.

Future rosy for Johnston

Despite blowing the start at Chelmsford in August, Mark Johnston’s filly ROSY MORNING recovered well to power home by four and a half lengths in a six-furlong maiden. She might not have beaten much that day but looked a natural on a synthetic surface and can get back in the winning groove at Wolverhampton (5.10) on Saturday.

Since breaking her maiden in such taking style, the daughter of Exceed And Excel failed to make any impact in a valuable sales race at Doncaster’s St Leger Festival but will be much more at home in handicap company on this sharper track.

Selections:

Supersta (5.40 Wolverhampton, Friday)
Farham (6.40 Wolverhampton Friday)
Rosy Morning (5.10 Wolverhampton Saturday)
