Chelsea seeking season confidence-booster by qualifying

Israel Champions League Soccer

Premier League fallen giants Chelsea have the chance to at least salvage something from this season so far, and they know that a win against pointless Maccabi Tel Aviv in their Champions League Group G game will put them in great stead to qualify.

All they need to ensure they make it to the knockout stages is for unbeaten pool leaders Porto to draw with or beat Dynamo Kiev in Portugal.

Jose Mourinho’s Blues come into this clash after the international break in better confidence, having just claimed a 1-0 Premier League win over Norwich City, and are odds-on 4/11 favourites with Coral to defeat the Israeli side too.

Back Blues to win to nil

If you fancy the west Londoners for another victory to nil in Maccabi’s adopted home Sammy Ofer Stadium, in Haifa, meanwhile, then take a more enticing price of 20/23.

Chelsea smashed this opposition 4-0 in their home leg back in September, thanks to goals from Brazilian-born trio Willian, Oscar and Diego Costa, as well as the latter’s Spain international teammate Cesc Fabregas. They are respective 7/4, 7/4, 10/11 and 2/1 shouts to net again anytime.

Coata in particular has finally regained his scoring touch after getting the sole goal against the Canaries, so is a more tempting 7/2 chance to break the deadlock.

Former Chelsea defender could feature

Maccabi have managed just one strike all campaign from their opening four games so far, which came from skipper Eran Zahavi from the spot as a consolation against Porto, who were 3-0 up at the time. The former Palermo attacker is 4/1 in the anytime market again.

Others to look out for in the hosts’ side include the two Tal Ben Haims (not related), with the younger winger also a 4/1 price while the former Blues defender 12/1 to score against his old club.

A draw at 15/4 may even be enough to all-but ensure Chelsea’s progression from the group, but no doubt they’ll be aiming for top spot with Mourinho’s former club being their last opponents at home on December 9th.

Coral’s top tip: Costa has regained his scoring touch, after grabbing the sole goal against Norwich, so back him at 7/2 to strike first here too.
