CORAL ENHANCED ACCAS

Matt Haynes | December 3, 2015

In the aftermath of the revelation that Mick McCarthy, boss of Ipswich Town, who are 8/1 for Championship promotion with Coral, released a cover of Nancy Sinatra’s “Did You Ever?” in a duet with Linda Martin in 1991, Coral have dug into the archives and found five more gems from footballers. Before you scroll further though, we have a rare treat for you.

Terry Venables: “If I Can Dream”

No, you’re not dreaming. England manager Venables did record a cover of Elvis Presley and didn’t actually do too bad. Released 4th June 2010, it assisted in supporting the ‘Help For Heroes’ charity. Someone buy the man a microphone.

Royston Drenthe “Tak Taki”

The former Feyenoord, Real Madrid and Reading player released a rap video for his daughter Jemay-Lee in 2011 in a bid to come across as a doting father. It was possibly antics like these which made Madrid’s decision to let him go easier, with his form on the pitch also suffering. Don’t give up your day job.

Manchester United 1999 “Lift It High”

To commemorate their treble winning season, Man Utd released this in 1999 which reached number 11 in the UK charts, despite the Oasis-esque soundtrack. Watch David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville and Paul Scholes and co belt this out, a record meant to be all about belief.

Ian Wright “Do The Right Thing”

Considering his character, it probably isn’t that much of a surprise. The former Arsenal player brought this out in 1993, which included a pun on his name and dance moves to boot. We’ve all seen him bounding around in the commentary box celebrating England goals, so his personality probably suited an attempt at a single.

Paul Gascoigne “Fog On The Tyne”

Who can forget this classic? We couldn’t leave this out. Lovable rogue “Gazza” released this in testimony to his beloved home city Newcastle and it reached number two in the UK charts.
