CORAL ENHANCED ACCAS

Coral’s bet of the day

  • Rooney has super scoring record against Blades
  • The England striker struck last time out
  • Skipper recently voted Three Lions player of 2015

Riveting Rooney record against Sheffield United

With Manchester United set to take on the Blades in the FA Cup third round, Coral find great value in recommending captain Wayne Rooney to score a brace at 3/1 in our bet of the day.

The last time the two clubs played each other was when the South Yorkshire outfit was in the English top flight, during the 2006/07 season, with Rooney scoring three times in two appearances against them. Also, it seems that Rooney has rediscovered his scoring for, starting 2016 with a bang, following a superb strike against Swansea.

Recent Rooney award can be catalyst he needs for top performance

If the United talisman ever needed a reminder of how good he is, then perhaps it could well be the award he picked up earlier this week, which named him as England Player of the Year for 2015, which saw him break Sir Bobby Charlton’s Three Lions scoring record.

Rooney, who will go into the FA Cup clash with fresh impetus said upon receiving the accolade: “To win this award is always a huge honour and to win it for a fourth time is something I’m very proud of.

“The fact it’s voted for by the fans is what makes it very special for me,” he continued. “It’s been a great year for the team and for me personally.”

Van Gaal wants FA Cup success for Rooney

The United skipper may also be buoyed on in this match following confidence from manager Louis van Gaal, after the Dutchman revealed that he wanted to triumph in the competition, having found out that Rooney has never won the FA Cup.

“It is hard to believe that long-serving players like Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick, who have won almost every honour in the game, still haven’t managed to win an FA Cup winners’ medal,” Van Gaal said.

“I am fully aware of the history and traditions of the FA Cup and that it is a competition this club have not won since 2004. I always say as a manager, all you can hope for is a home tie in cup draws.

“We look forward to the challenge and hope for a long run to make a real impression.”
