Lingfield preview: The time is right for Clock On Tom

CORAL ENHANCED ACCAS

David Metcalf | January 12, 2016

Clock On Tom can take advantage of a handy mark to land the 1m 2f handicap on today’s card at Lingfield (15.10).

The gelding has just one win to his name on the level, and that came in a class 5 contest at Beverley off a mark of 60 back in May 2013 when trained by Mick Easterby.

Now in the care of Denis Quinn, the six-year-old is able to race off a career-low rating 45 and tackles class 7 company for the first time.

It makes Clock On Tom look thrown-in at the weights, and the son of Trade Fair comes into the contest in rude health having won his last two starts over hurdles.

The last of those victories came off a mark of 112, and if translating that level of form back to the flat Clock On Tom looks a real handicap blot.

Connections have also secured the services of in-form jockey Luke Morris, and in a contest lacking any real strength in depth Clock On Tom looks to have everything in his favour to land the spoils.

Lingfield

Comedy House a series chance in amateur riders’ handicap

In the 1m 4f amateur riders’ handicap that closes proceedings (15.40), Comedy House looks decent value to score an overdue success.

The Michael Madgwick trained gelding has notched all three of his career victories at the track, and in the last of those over 1m 5f held on gamely close home to score by a neck off a mark of 63.

Comedy House is now able to race off the same rating having since gone on to make the frame on three occasions off higher marks.

That gives the eight-year-old every chance from a handicapping perspective, and Comedy House has shaped as if returning to form in his last two starts over course and distance.

It’s also interesting that connections are now refitting Comedy House with the visor, as that headgear was sported when he was last successful, and in a race which should be run to suit he looks weighted to run a big race.
