Rumour Reel: Man Utd to prise Saul away from Atletico as Reds target Mane
Robbie Purves | May 27, 2016
Despite the window officially opening on July 1st, it seems clubs are already chasing down their top transfer targets one by one, as they look to complete some of their business before Euro 2016 kicks off and calls a halt to movement.
United call Saul
Manchester United are reportedly lining up a £54m move for Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez to kick-start the new era under Jose Mourinho.
The bid would be enough to trigger the Spaniard’s release clause and bring the player to Old Trafford. Niguez recently stunned Europe with his incredible solo goal against Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-final first leg and has impressed throughout the season.
Saul is a versatile player that can play in central midfield or on the right flank and possesses excellent tackling, passing and dribbling ability – recording nine goals and four assist this term.
The Atleti man would provide some much needed energy to United’s sluggish centre and be the all action midfield warrior that Mourinho likes.
Alternatively, Saul could fill the right wing berth that looks to be vacant, as Juan Mata is likely to find his playing time reduced with the new manager arriving.
The 21-year-old is expected to start in the centre of Atletico’s midfield in the Champions League final against city rivals Real Madrid on Saturday.
Reds to splash the Mane
Liverpool are lining up a bid for Southampton forward Sadio Mane, according to reports. The Senegal winger is understood to be a potential alternative to Mario Gotze, after the German committed his future to Bayern Munich.
The Anfield side were close to a deal for Mane in 2014, but then manager Brendan Rodgers declined the chance to sign the forward. Mane has since scored 25 goals in 75 games for the Saints.
Scoring an impressive 15 goals and nine assists in all competitions for Southampton this term, Mane could boost Liverpool’s attacking line. Christian Benteke netted just nine times in the Premier League this season, while Daniel Sturridge missed 23 clashes through injury this term.
Jurgen Klopp is reportedly a big admirer of the rapid winger, having kept tabs on him since his days at Red Bull Salzburg.
Conte counts on Lukaku departure
Romelu Lukaku looks set to leave Everton this summer, after incoming Blues boss Antonio Conte reportedly made him a priority.
According to reports, Chelsea have been quoted £65m by the Merseyside outfit if they want to prise him away from Goodison Park.
Lukaku has indicated he wants to leave the Toffees in recent days, saying: “I have had a very good season, but it is time for me to write myself a CV… I got that trophy-winning mindset from Chelsea… I want to win titles.”
The Belgian striker’s father also said that a deal could be ‘done before the Euros’ in a deal that would see him return to Stamford Bridge.
