Singyoursong weighted to strike for in-form Simcock
Trainer David Simcock has his team in fine form and Singyoursong can take advantage of what looks a lenient mark or provide him with another winner in the 1m handicap on today’s card at Wolverhampton (16:00).
The colt shaped with bags of promise on debut at Kempton, finishing fast to be beaten 1 3/4 lengths into third behind Cajoled after being slowly away.
Cajoled is a really nice type who has since gone on to score easily on handicap debut off a mark of 73, and Singyoursong duly built on that effort to open his account in good style at Lingfield.
The three-year-old lost ground when dwelling at the start, but quickly got back into contention and after making headway to take up the running at the furlong market powered clear to win by three lengths.
It was a most taking performance, and the runner-up Lord Huntingdon has won since and is now rated 78.
Judged on those runs, Singyoursong looks potentially thrown-in at the weights on his handicap debut having been allotted a rating of just 69.
Chauvelin can cash-in on plumetting mark
In the 1m 4f handicap (17:00), Chauvelin can cash-in on a huge drop in the weights to score an overdue success.
The gelding’s sole success came back in January 2015 at Kempton when scoring off 66 for trainer Roger Charlton and he went on to finish runner-up off 68.
Chauvelin then moved to join Richard Guest and failed to shine in his first 10 starts for his new handler.
However, the five-year-old hinted that he could be ready to strike when putting in a much improved effort to be fourth of 14 to Bamako Du Chatelet at Lingfield two weeks ago.
Chauvelin was ridden too aggressively from the front and kicked five lengths clear two from home before not surprisingly weakening late on as those exertions took their toll.
The son of Sir Percy is now able to race in this off 1lb lower, and has a career-low mark of 47 to operate with.
That is a massive 19lb lower than when last successful and, if building on his latest effort, Chauvelin looks weighted to take all the beating.
