Alan Shearer thinks Martin Kaymer will get a Ryder Cup wildcard place for Europe

| 30.08.2016

Golf is another passion of Coral football ambassador Alan Shearer’s, so our own Simon Clare spoke exclusively to him ahead of Team Europe picking their wildcards for the biennial battle with the USA.

Shearer feels Martin Kaymer will be one of those names Darren Clarke, Europe’s captain for this edition of the Ryder Cup, selects for the team golf event at the end of September.

“I would expect Kaymer to get a place”

I can’t wait for the Ryder Cup. It looks like my mate Lee Westwood is going to pick up one of the three wildcards for the European team.

I would expect Martin Kaymer to also get a place but working out the last one is tough. It could be either Russell Knox or Graeme McDowell. Knox would be another rookie so he could be a risk so you could argue McDowell would bring some invaluable experience to the team.

I went to the Ryder Cup two years ago at Gleneagles which was absolutely brilliant. I’d love to go to an away Ryder Cup but I struggle to get the time off.

“Clarke should be a great Ryder Cup captain”

Everybody thinks I live a great life travelling to all these fantastic golf events, however, I do have a busy work schedule too!

Darren Clarke should be a great Ryder Cup captain. He’s a good guy and hopefully he can inspire Europe to a win in the States and keep up their excellent record in this tournament in recent years.
