Coral English Open day 3 tips: Maguire v Day, Bingham v McManus and more
Coral English Open day 3 tips
Round one of the inaugural Coral English Open at EventCity in Manchester proved terrific, so now we look ahead to the latest set of match-ups.
As proud sponsors of this brand new event, we’re offering tasty top odds as potting greats past and present take to the baize chasing the £70k top prize on offer to the tournament winner.
So, ahead of the latest green baize action, here are our Coral English Open day 3 tips. Read on to find out who we’ve selected as our best value bets, which also includes a promising acca…
Maguire v Day odds for a deciding frame
Stephen Maguire may have a dominant 14-2 lead over Ryan Day in their previous head-to-heads, but Glasgow’s man “On Fire” only just scraped through to round two in Manchester.
Taking a deciding frame victory over another Welsh potter in Gareth Allen, 2004 UK champion Maguire is unlikely to find three-time Crucible quarter-finalist Day any less forgiving.
Half of the 16 career meetings between these Celtic cueists have gone the distance, leaving a 21/10 price on there being a deciding frame very attractive indeed.
Bingham bets to beat McManus 4-3
Former World Snooker champion Stuart Bingham, like Maguire, needed a final frame decider to get past Robert Milkins in the first round. Ball Run now battles Alan McManus – an opponent he’s lost to just once.
As two of their last three best-of-seven frames fixtures have gone the distance, with Bingham winning both, backing this scoreline again makes sense.
Ball Run to triumph 4-3 is on offer at a nifty 9/2 price. Angles certainly possesses all the experience and tactical nous to pose him problems.
Selt to cover the handicap against Hamilton
As 2015 UK Championship quarter-finalist Matthew Selt eliminated world number 11 Joe Perry in his opening assignment, he should be able to beat veteran Anthony Hamilton.
The Sheriff of Pottingham is outside the top 100 now, and Selt is ranked more than 80 places higher. If able to cover the handicap against Perry, then Selt is worth backing to do so again here.
Once again set at 1.5 frames, a price of evens says Selt shall overcome that imagined deficit and win 4-2 or better again.
James Cahill to beat Joe Swail
Stephen Hendry’s nephew James Cahill can continue to strike out on his own by beating Northern Irish veteran Joe Swail, and secure a spot in round three of the Coral English Open.
Current betting suggests there is little in this encounter with both potters 10/11 to progress. Side with Cahill, who announced himself when scalping Ding Junhui as a teenager at the 2014 UK Championship – another event then sponsored by Coral.
Finally, the above second round matches all provide legs of a fantastic fourfold acca. Staking €/£3 on Maguire (8/11)*, Bingham (4/9)*, Selt (8/15)* and Cahill (10/11)* returns almost €/£22.
That is combined odds of better than 6/1*, which may only shorten overnight if not taken without delay. Maguire and Bingham’s dominant head-to-head records, Selt’s skill and the youthful exuberance of Cahill all blend together to make this very tempting.
