Twitter reacts to Chelsea crushing Foxes, Bellew’s KO and British Champions Day

| 17.10.2016

There was plenty of sporting drama to take place over the course of the weekend, including the recommencement of the Premier League and horse racing thrills from British Champions Day, all of which caused much interesting and amusing reaction online.

So, following the action from football to boxing and horse racing, Coral cast our eye over the best Twitter reaction to these events…

Chelsea crush champions Leicester

Having secured the most remarkable Premier League title triumph in history last season, Leicester City have began the new campaign underwhelmingly and there victory looks like being a sensational one-off as their poor form continued against Chelsea

Diego Costa maintained his superb start to the term by opening proceedings and the frontman dedicated his goal to teammate Willian, who sadly recently received the news of his Mother’s passing…

Blues boss Antonio Conte is well known for his animated calls on the sidelines and he was in top form at Stamford Bridge as his side overcame the Foxes…

Eden Hazard was also on target as he continued his impressive campaign, bouncing back from probably his worst ever last season…

N’Golo Kante was key to Leicester winning the league last term but he lined up against them in Chelsea’s 3-0 triumph on London and enjoyed a busy afternoon…

Penalty misses galore in top-flight

There were penalty misses aplenty during the weekend’s encounters on matchweek eight, with Manchester City duo Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero both failing to convert against Everton and Chrsitian Benteke also messed his spot kick up over West Ham United…

Belgian playmaker De Bruyne has been superb so far this term but his penalty was brilliantly denied by a towering Stekelenburg…

Aguero hasn’t enjoyed much success from 12 yards of late and the in-form Toffees stopper added to the Argentine’s recent misery…

Ashley Williams was more than happy though…

Crystal Palace frontman Benteke was unable to add to his impressive recent goal streak as he also missed from the spot…

British Champions Day

The flat season came to a thrilling finale with British Champions Day at Ascot.

The Tin Man triumphs in Champion Sprint

When it comes to this type of horse racing, there’s more exciting than a sprint.

The Tin Man bounced back from disappointments to beat more lauded rivals and score for handler James Fanshawe by a length from 50/1 outsider Growl in the Champion Sprint Stakes.

Minding makes it 22 Group 1s for O’Brien with QEII Stakes success

The Queen Elizabeth II Stakes was another hotly competitive Group 1 race, and all-conquering Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien now has 22 victories of those during this season thanks to Minding…

A half-a-length win over Godolphin horse Ribchester gave dual Classic winner Minding the perfect end to an almost flawless season, having earlier landed the Newmarket 1000 Guineas, Epsom Oaks, Pretty Polly and Nassau Stakes at The Curragh and Glorious Goodwood respectively.

Almanzor a sure-fire Champion

Star French raider Almanzor captured the Champion Stakes and Group 1 glory, with a two-length victory over Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe heroine Found…

Well Kate, he might just be!

Bellew stops Flores and calls out Haye

Liverpool hosted an eventful fight night at the Echo Arena, as home fighter Tony Bellew retained his WBC cruiserweight title by stopping American challenger BJ Flores. It was the first time the latter Californian had ever been knocked out in his career as he went down four times and was halted in the third round…

As emotions were running high in light of his maiden title defence, Bellew instantly went at former heavyweight champion David Haye and called for the recently returned Londoner to face him in the ring…

Haye has announced that he will be entering the ring once again later this year, but he is yet to name an opponent. Could he and Bellew eventually face-off in what would be a tasty all-British grudge fight?
