North Hill Harvey each-way value in Greatwood Hurdle at Cheltenham
North Hill Harvey weighted to go well in Greatwood
The Greatwood Handicap Hurdle is the big betting race at Cheltenham on Sunday (14.40) and North Hill Harvey looks nicely treated and decent each-way value at the odds on offer.
The Dan Skelton trained five-year-old shaped with bags of promise when runner-up to the smart Barters Hill on hurdling debut at Huntingdon, holding every chance two from home before making a bad mistake and being eased to be beaten 14 lengths.
North Hill Harvey then opened his account with a smooth 4 1/2 length success at this venue, travelling well throughout and quickening up smartly after taking up the running at the last to easily beat Baden by 4 1/2 lengths.
The selection then made a series of mistakes when runner-up in a Listed contest at Huntingdon before being far from disgraced when ninth of 14 to Altior in a strong renewal of the Grade 1 Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.
Excellent effort at Aintree
North Hill Harvey went on to round off the campaign with a decent fourth to Buveur D’air in a Grade 1 at Aintree, keeping on nicely to be beaten nine lengths.
In doing so he split Limini and Bleu Et Rouge who were rated 151 and 152 respectively going into the race.
It was a taking performance which left the impression that he would have more to offer this season once strengthened up.
Yard in good form and open to further progression
If that proves to be the case North Hill Harvey’s opening handicap mark of 141 looks exploitable.
It’s also interesting that the gelding was pulled out of the Grade 2 Elite Hurdle at Wincanton on Saturday, presumably because connections thought they hand a well-treated sort on their hands who was worth a crack at this valuable prize.
North Hill Harvey also hails from a yard that has made a good start to the season and remains unexposed and open to stacks more progress after just five starts under rules.
The forecast good ground should also be ideal and, in what looks a typically fierce and open renewal of the 2m contest, North Hill Harvey looks to have plenty going for him.
