CORAL ENHANCED ACCAS

Andy Murray is long odds-on at 1-8 with leading bookmaker Coral to be crowned the BBC Sports Personality of the Year for 2016 ahead of the ceremony tomorrow evening. Murray, who ended the year as the world number one in men’s tennis, is also odds-on at 1-4 to be knighted in the Queen’s New Year’s honours list.

Alistair Brownlee is second best in the market for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year at 13-2, fellow Olympic gold medalist Nick Skelton is next in at 20-1 and Mo Farah can be backed at 25-1.

“Andy Murray is one of the shortest priced favourites in history to win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award. The world number one in tennis has had another superb year and it would be a huge surprise if he was not to win the award for the third time,” said Coral’s John Hill.

“Alistair Brownlee and Nick Skelton are second and third best in the outright betting respectively which indicates they could both be honoured with a trophy for their achievements at the Olympics earlier in the year,” added Hill.

In the team of the year betting, Leicester are as short as 2-9 to win the award following their success in the Premier League where the 5000-1 outsiders lifted the title in the 2015-16 campaign.
