Rumour Reel: Schmeichel and Hart to swap, Barkley bargain as Everton eye January sales?
Coral’s rumour reel
After the Merseyside derby on Monday, the next time fans can tuck into a Premier League viewing will be on Boxing Day. By then there’ll be just six days until the New Year and the opening of the January transfer window, which means Coral’s rumour reel is really hotting up.
So today’s offering of transfer gossip surrounds goalies, as whispers surface that Leicester City want Joe Hart with a Kasper Schemeichel transfer to Man City also simultaneously being mooted.
Who will your club capture this winter? Read on to find out…
Kasper Schmeichel transfer to Man City, Leicester want Joe Hart?
Could Premier League champions Leicester City and challengers to the throne Manchester City be about to exchange their old toys?
Rumour has it that the Foxes are keen on adding England keeper Hart to the King Power contingent, after the 29-year-old was shipped off on loan to Torino. The City stopper is tipped to leave the Etihad permanently, but Leicester may have to wait until summer for Hart to return from his Italian adventure.
Much depends on their own post protector, as number one Schmeichel is said to be a target for Man City themselves, with Pep Guardiola’s Claudio Bravo experiment yet to bear fruit.
Schmeichel, now 30, followed in the footsteps of his famous father and spent four years with the Citizens after joining as a young-gun back in 2005. The Dane could see a transfer back to the blue half of Manchester as a chance to come full circle – could a keeper swap be on the cards?
Barkley edging closer to Spurs?
Meanwhile, as Coral’s rumour reel reported earlier this month, Everton reportedly have interest in snatching out-of-favour Manchester United duo Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin when the winter window opens.
The Toffees may have to sell one of their own to poach the pair, however, and it is homegrown hero Ross Barkley who could be used to drum up funds.
The Merseysiders are reportedly hopeful of auctioning off England’s Barkley, who has been at Goodison Park as a senior player since 2010 and with Everton youth as far back as 2005.
Now, 23, box-to-box midfielder Barkley’s progress has been accused of stalling and, with Spurs said to be circling at the chance of snaring Barkley to support compatriot Harry Kane, Everton could use the opportunity to offload, with £30m the fee being floated around for the Liverpudlian talent.
