Bet of the day: Monday’s racing
We’re up early at Carlisle
A sparkling new sporting week, and horse racing punters are catered for thanks to domestic meetings taking place at Carlisle, Wetherby, Nottingham and Windsor. Not the busiest schedule, but there’s plenty of winners to be found.
We focus on matters in Cumbria, where seven legs get underway at 2.00pm. Read on for our NAP of the day, aimed at getting us off on the winning foot, while the ever-popular race-by-race selections can be followed towards the bottom of the page, perfect for those betting on the go.
NAP impressed on debut
We’re wasting no time here, and jump in on the first race of the day at Carlisle, with our NAP going in the form of Ghost Serge for trainer Archie Watson in the 2.00pm novice auction stakes. The ace play won over today’s trip of five furlongs at Lingfield on debut earlier this month, and connections will be hoping to see him kick on from that.
The interesting two-year-old colt did the business off a chunky SP that day, destroying the field, including betting favourite, and runner-up, Not After Midnight by seven lengths. We couldn’t help but be impressed by the way he opened-up when going for home, and punters who saw the effort would’ve immediately marked Ghost Serge down in the notebook as one worth keeping close.
Ghost Serge to live up to expectations
OK, so we won’t get carried away with the bare result, it wasn’t the best race you’ll come across, but the manner in which he got the win made him a standout, and he looked like a horse who was enjoying his work. With the team having him out again just 18 days later, we’ve got to take that as a positive.
We’re expecting further improvement on Monday, and Ghost Serge should prove it no fluke by living up to his tag as betting favourite. Coral traders are eager to keep him close, with 4/5 the price at the time of writing about two in-a-row.
