Bulls to charge in US Open Cup

| 14.06.2017

New York derby gives fans a midweek interest

We go stateside in the early hours of Thursday morning for an exciting round of fixtures from the US Open Cup. New York Red Bulls take on New York City in game of the round, and Coral are betting on a number of markets, aimed at ramping up your interest.

Red Bulls enjoy home advantage going into this straight knock-out cup tie, and Coral traders have the locals marked down as favourites to make it count. Click here to bet on the match, or build your US Open Cup midweek accas.

Bulls to continue derby dominance

This will be the sixth meeting in history between these sides, and the Red Bulls have had just about everything their own way so far, with the head-to-head record showing four wins and one defeat from five encounters. Teeing off with a famous 2-1 in May 2015, the bulls have enjoyed some memorable wins over NYC, including a 7-0 romp last May.

City do show that one triumph, coming courtesy of a 2-0 upset little over a year ago, but the aggregate score to date doesn’t make good reading for followers of the visitors, Red Bulls 16 – 5 NYC. That would suggest a play on the favourites in the handicap market is the way to tackle this one, with -1 at 5/2. Those with a bit more confidence can take Jesse Marsch’s side -2 at an attractive 13/2.

Home win the value play

The dominant side strolled to a 4-1 win over Thursday’s opponents when last hosting at the Red Bull Arena, Bradley Wright-Phillips grabbing a double, Ronald Zubar and a Sacha Kljestan penalty completing the rout. Thomas McNamara notched a consolation goal late in the first-half, before Ethan White was shown a red card on 89 minutes.

More of the same here – both teams to score in a Red Bulls win – is sure to catch the attention of value hunters, with Coral punters getting 12/5. Rather keep things simple? The home win in the match betting market is 19/20, which looks value, considering the stats.

Over 3.5 goals worth a bet

The Bronx Blues have been written off in the market, with an upset priced at 11/5. City’s sole win to date over their rivals came last July, Jack Harrison breaking the deadlock on eight minutes, before David Villa slotted home at the Yankee Stadium to write his own little piece of history. Chris Duvall was sent off for the beaten side, in what proved to be yet another bad-tempered affair. Things should get tasty again on Thursday.

These sides met three times during the 2016/17 season, with 14 goals scored. Taking over 3.5 in the total goals market trades at 29/20. That would’ve been settled as a winning bet in three of the last four renewals.
