Will PSG move open Ballon D’Or for Neymar?

| 23.08.2017

Brazilian has made eye catching start in France

In the worst kept secret in world football, Neymar Jr made the £200m+ move from Barcelona to Paris Saint Germain this summer and it’s fair to say he’s hit the ground running in the French capital.

The Brazilian forward made his PSG debut against Guingamp and grabbed a goal and an assist to leave a good first impression. But it’s his performance against Toulouse on Sunday evening that has everyone sitting up and taking notice, scoring twice, getting two assists and winning a penalty in a 6 -2 win.

So, now that Neymar has stepped out of Lionel Messi’s shadow, can he win the Ballon D’Or?

Guaranteed goals

One thing the skilful Brazilian will guarantee you wherever he plays his football is goals. Not only scoring them, but setting them up too, as he has already demonstrated in his short time in France.

Goals win games (obviously!) and if he can continue to produce that kind of form on the big stage i.e. the Champions League, we could well see the first French winners of that competition since Marseille in 1993.

If that were to materialise, you’d have to assume Neymar will have played a massive part in getting the club over the line, so the calls for him to win the Ballon D’Or would be too loud to ignore for FIFA.

All eyes on Neymar

The eyes of the footballing world are firmly fixed on the Brazilian after he became the most expensive player ever, but that won’t bother him one bit.

Having played at Barcelona, he knows what’s expected of him at a big club and being the golden boy at PSG will only feed his desire more to be the best player in the world.

With the likes of Angel Di Maria, Edinson Cavani, Dani Alves and Marco Verratti backing him up, he has the perfect platform to take his game to the next level and truly cement his place in football history.

Can Neymar win the Balon D’Dor now that he’s moved to PSG? Absolutely. Will he? Only time will tell, but if his opening couple of games are anything to go by, it could well be an overwhelming yes.
