A fight that’s nearly too close to predict
All eyes turn to Las Vegas this Saturday night as Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez meet in a clash of the titans.
The undefeated middleweight champion of the world, ‘Triple G’, against the bona fide Mexican superstar, Canelo – a super fight for the ages.
Styles make fights and these two boxing giants are as evenly-matched as it gets

Possible outcomes
For two boxers who have produced so many answers over the years, it’s the questions that loom large over both that are most interesting.
Has Golovkin slowed down in his mid-thirties? Does he still retain that concussive knockout power?
Does Canelo have the movement to avoid such a world class operator? Will he retain his qualities fighting at a much heavier weight?
GGG had major issues with Daniel Jacobs in his previous bout. Jacobs was by far the naturally bigger man, so failing to stop him wasn’t that shocking.
However, at 35-years-old, with nearly 400 fights in total – amateur and pro – behind him, there’s a suspicion Golovkin has actually faded.
Even if that is true, as mentioned before, styles make fights. The unified champion is a come-forward fighter. Canelo is a furious counter-puncher.
If Golovkin can cut off the ring, and force Alvarez against the ropes, the Mexican will have nowhere to go. Can he take those power shots?
If he can, and he can evade, GGG for long enough, Canelo could easily win this on points.
What do the odds say?
At 4/6, Coral make Golovkin the slight favourite, with Canelo at 6/5, and a draw at 22/1.
The closeness in odds suggests how difficult it really is to call this fight.
A lot of people within the fight game are sitting on the fence with their predictions.
It’s 11/8 that GGG wins by KO, TKO or Disqualification.
Considering the fact that he had stopped 23 opponents in a row before the Jacobs fight, that price might seem quite generous.
It’s 9/5 that Canelo wins by Decision or Technical Decision.
When you consider the ‘boxer v brawler’ scenario, and that the Mexican might not retain enough power to KO the Kazakh, that also seems a likely scenario.

This looks like such an even content, it’s nearly too difficult to pick one fighter over the other. The draw at 22/1 looks a tempting prospect.
The idea of a rematch, and even a trilogy, will be on the cards.
