Bet of the Day: In-form Macclesfield Town set for Guiseley triumph
Silkmen travel to face struggling Lions
Just two points separate the top seven in the National League right now. One of the form sides in that group are John Askey’s Macclesfield Town, and they look to continue their impressive recent run away to Guiseley.
The Silkmen have won four of their last five matches, including an impressive 2-0 defeat of Aldershot Town on Saturday. That fixture was at Moss Rose, but they’ve arguably been stronger on the road.
Ahead of their visit to this corner of West Yorkshire, Macc have won three successive away games without conceding a single goal. They also began the campaign with a 1-0 victory at Wrexham.
By contrast, Guiseley fans have had little to cheer. Winless in eight, they’ve scored just three times in that period. Coral’s Bet of the Day is Macclesfield Town to Win at 6/5.
Solid Silkmen unlikely to ship goals
Askey’s men have built their winning formula on solid defensive formations. Macc have won seven games this term, and conceded in just one of them – a solitary Fylde effort during last month’s 2-1 victory.
As for their hosts, the Lions are currently the division’s lowest scorers. Paul Cox’s charges have failed to find the net in eight of their 13 games to date, including a 3-0 rout at the hands of Maidenhead United on Saturday.
That all means Macclesfield to Win and Under 2.5 Goals looks a value bet at 18/5.
Macc to make their mark early
While the Cheshire club have tended to be involved in low-scoring wins, they haven’t made things particularly nervy for their fans. Ryan Lloyd gave them the lead within 60 seconds against Aldershot, further enhancing Macc’s reputation for strong starts.
The Silkmen have been 1-0 up at the quarter-hour mark in three of their last seven matches, with early leads against Chester and Fylde preceding the Shots’ encounter.
By contrast, the Lions found themselves 2-0 down within five minutes at Maidenhead at the weekend. That could make Result After 15 Minutes: Macclesfield a great call at 6/1.
