5 key storylines from Tuesday’s Champions League games

| 05.12.2017

Group Stages are at a climax

Some of Europe’s biggest names could be eliminated from the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Atletico Madrid and Juventus are both teetering on the brink. While even Manchester United are not yet guaranteed a place in the knockout round.

The Coral News Team look at those issues and more in Tuesday’s Champions League storylines…

Chelsea going for top spot

Chelsea may already be through to the knockout round, but you can be sure that Antonio Conte wants top-spot in Group C.

If the Blues match or better AS Roma’s result against Qarabag FK, they’re guaranteed first-place.

But up against Atletico Madrid, things won’t be easy. Los Rojiblancos require a win to stand any chance of making it through to the last-16. And even then, they’ll still be relying on events in the Italian capital.

That set of circumstances makes for what should be an intriguing clash at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea 21/20 to get the win.

Man United to finish with a flourish

United are all but through to the next round of the Champions League.

Only a remarkable set of results will see the Red Devils crash out of the competition at the first hurdle.

And while that’s not likely to happen, the Coral News Team don’t think it’ll be plain sailing for Jose Mourinho’s men against CSKA Moscow.

Krasno-sinie are unbeaten in six and will provide a stern test for a United side likely to rest players ahead of this weekend’s Manchester derby.

The hosts should still prevail, but only by a tight margin. Get on Man United and Under 2.5 Goals at 12/5.

Juventus on the verge

Juventus look set to just about scrape through in Group D.

Going into tonight’s round of matches, La Vecchia Signora are just one point ahead of third-place Sporting Lisbon.

Fortunately for last season’s finalists, their final group game is against Olympiakos, who have managed just one point from five games so far.

That should herald a crucial away victory for Juve. But don’t expect them to rout the Greek champions. Massimiliano Allegri’s men have only scored five goals so far in this season’s competition.

It’s 21/10 for a Juve victory and Under 2.5 Goals.

Super-clubs face-off in Germany

Not very often do you get a clash of two super-clubs in the Champions League Group Stage.

But this season has delivered spectacularly on that front.

Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are both assured of qualification ahead of this one, so expect a free-flowing game at the Allianz Arena.

Plus, if Bayern can win by four goals or more, they’ll steal top-spot from Les Parisiens.

The hosts are 7/5 to get the win, with 10/3 shot Robert Lewandowski considered the most likely player to open the scoring for Die Bayern.

Celtic on course for Europa League

A Europa League spot is within touching distance for Celtic.

After five rounds of matches, the Hoops are three points ahead of Tuesday night’s opponents Anderlecht.

Brendan Rodgers’ men saw off Les Mauves et Blancs 3-0 in Matchday two.

Back at Celtic Park, they’re taken to do the business again at 17/20.
