Antoine Griezmann picking perfect moment to find form for Atletico
Atletico Madrid ace is on song in La Liga
Attention is never greater on a footballer than during a World Cup. The eyes of the entire planet can be upon them.
So it’s pretty much perfect timing for Antoine Griezmann to start banging in the goals for Atletico Madrid.
The Frenchman bagged four in Atleti’s 4-0 win over Leganes on Wednesday night.
And after netting a hat-trick in his side’s 5-2 win away at Sevilla last weekend, Griezmann became the first Atletico player to score successive hat-tricks in the 21st century.
But his goal rush is about far more than just historical records.
Griezmann endured a slow start to the campaign, following another hectic summer of transfer speculation.
He was sent off on the opening weekend against Girona, and scored only five times in his first 16 league appearances.
Goals eluded him in the Champions League too, as Atleti finished third in their group and fell into the Europa League.
But with seven goals in two games, Griezmann is making headlines for the right reasons at the right time.
And should he continue his current form into the World Cup, then he will surely be the most in-demand player this summer.
Barcelona continue to be heavily linked, as do Manchester United. And despite going off the boil earlier this season, Griezmann and Atletico could now command their own fee.
But if the Frenchman turns it on at the World Cup this summer, then he may reach unattainable levels.
