Scudamore says: “Padleyourowncanoe could shock a few people”

| 14.03.2018

A year ago you’d have said that the Champion Chase would be the race of the Festival, Altior taking on Douvan. However there are so many question marks about them, it’s impossible to have a strong view. Min is probably almost the logical choice.

Fred Winter – Padleyourowncanoe

Padleyourowncanoe could shock a few people. He really could. He’s tough, he’s honest. The softer the ground the better for him.

The form of his last run has worked out well. He is just the sort of horse you need in a race like this, with the hustle and bustle.

He’s a real old terrier of a horse, and I’m very fond of him. I think he’ll makeup into a very nice staying hurdler next year whatever happens.

I wouldn’t dismiss him lightly. He’s a typical Tizzard horse; tough, honest, stays. Whether he’s quite got the class for this we shall see, but I’m very happy for how the ground has turned for him.

Champion Bumper – Know The Score

In a normal year I’d be worried that everything would happen too quickly for Know The Score, but this is anything but a normal year given the ground.

He was very impressive winning around Towcester and the second came out and won on Thursday which gave the form a shot in the arm.

Know The Score beat them as if they were statues at Towcester, and he’ll be doing all his best work at the end of the race.

Both of my horses today have each way chances, and something might happen for them, but they are definitely horses for the future.
