Big Match Breakdown: Bournemouth v Manchester United

| 18.04.2018

Odds and preview ahead of the live TV game

Manchester United travel south to face AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium in a Premier League clash this evening.

Jose Mourinho’s outfit will have the chance to put to bed their shoddy 1-0 home defeat to West Bromwich Albion last weekend.

Bournemouth are on 38 points with just four games left and are practically safe. A win would see the job definitely completed.

The Coral News Team goes in-depth ahead of this midweek clash with a Big Match Breakdown…

Since Bournemouth’s return to the Premier League, it’s been pretty much one-way traffic between the pair in the top-flight.

The Cherries did beat United 2-1 in their first meeting at Gold Sands back in 2015. But the Red Devils have won three and drawn the other of four clashes since then.

Previous to that Man United had only ever lost once to Bournemouth in an FA Cup clash back in 1984.

Likely XIs

Eddie Howe has a relatively clean bill of health. Long-term absentees include Tyrone Mings, Adam Smith, and Junior Stanislas, but otherwise, everyone else is fit.

Callum Wilson is expected to come in for Jermaine Defoe after the ex-Tottenham striker’s poor showing in the 3-0 loss to Liverpool.

For United, Mourinho is likely to make a number of changes after a pedestrian performance against West Brom.

Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, and Ander Herrera are all expected to drop out of the starting line up. One of Anthony Martial or Marcus Rashford should start. Maraoune Fellaini could come back into the team.

Key Battles

Midfield will be the major battleground is this top-flight clash. Both sides like to play possession football and control the game.

If United can nullify Howe’s side in the central area and are vigilant against fast counters from Wilson, Jordan Ibe, and co., Mourinho will be reasonably pleased.

However, United really need to be on their game in attack or this game could peter out into a bit of drab stalemate.

With Rashford, Martial, and Jesse Lingard interchanging behind Romelu Lukaku, United definitely have the tools to win the game.

Match Odds

Bournemouth are 18/5 to win, with Man United at 8/11, and the draw available at 14/5.

The Cherries have only won one of their previous eight league games. Despite their previous loss to West Brom, United have won six of their last eight.

Three of the five previous Premier League clashes have seen three or more goals. Over 2.5 Goals is 4/6. Four of the five have had both teams find the net. Both Teams To Score is 4/6.

Romelu Lukaku (25) and Jesse Lingard (13) are the United’s top scorers this season. Lukaku is 23/20 to find the net Anytime, while Lingard is 8/5.

For the South Coast outfit, Callum Wilson tops the charts with eight strikes. He’s 12/5 to find the onion bag Anytime.
