Premier League talking points: Relegation battle and Golden Boot race centre-stage

| 13.04.2018

All the big issues in the top flight

The Premier League roars back into action this weekend after the European drama in midweek.

Every point matters at this stage of the campaign. And the Coral News Team have looked at the key issues….

Will Harry Kane make up ground in the Golden Boot race?

The Premier League’s decision to belatedly award Harry Kane the disputed goal against Stoke City means he’s now got 25 league goals this season. He’s four behind Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah in the hunt for the Golden Boot.

Kane is chasing the award for a third successive year. But has he got too much ground to make up? Salah could break Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez’s Premier League record of 31 goals in a 38-game season this term. Kane is 11/10 to score anytime against Manchester City.

Can Man City bounce back from European disappointment?

Speaking of City, they’re in danger of losing their fourth consecutive game against Spurs this weekend. They’ll almost certainly win the league this term, but Pep Guardiola’s side have lost some of their sheen after losses to Manchester United and Liverpool.

Will they be deflated at Wembley after their Champions League elimination? City are narrow 31/20 favourites, with Spurs just behind at 8/5.

Who’ll have bragging rights at Selhurst Park?

The relegation battle gives the clash between rivals Crystal Palace and Brighton & Hove Albion an extra edge this weekend.

Palace are only three points above the relegation zone, having played a game more than Southampton in 18th. Brighton know that a win could push the Eagles a step towards the Championship. This one should be very feisty.

Who’ll be the best of the rest?

Burnley and Leicester will both have their eyes on seventh place and finishing top of the teams outside the Big Six. As long as Southampton don’t win the FA Cup, finishing seventh would also secure a Europa League spot.

The two clubs meet on Saturday and a home win for Burnley would take them nine points above the Foxes with five games to play. From there, they could turn their attention to chasing down Arsenal in sixth. Burnley are 13/8 to get the points.

Will a win be enough for Swansea to stay up?

After making a great start to life under Carlos Carvalhal, Swansea City have now only picked up two points from their last three games.

They’re currently four points above the bottom three. However, a win over Everton could see them end the weekend as high as 13th. They should be safe from there.

The Swans are 6/4 to beat an Everton team that have only won two of their last 16 away games.
