Shearer says: “Liverpool have nobody to fear in the Champions League.”

Coral ambassador looks back on sensational European action

It has been a superb week of Champions League football with two great games that have had everything.

Goals, cards, controversial decisions, great performances, nail-biting finishes, you name it we have seen it.

Manchester City got off to a dream start with an early goal on Tuesday night and that made Liverpool’s victory all the more impressive.

To be 1-0 down after two minutes but hold their nerve in the manner they did was excellent and they got their game plan absolutely spot-on.

The fact that they won the tie 5-1 on aggregate shows just how good they were.

They did get a little bit of luck with the disallowed goal but Liverpool thoroughly deserved to win the tie.

The decision to disallow Sane’s goal was an example of where VAR would have been useful.

It was a clear mistake and having come off James Milner there was no way it should have been given offside.

However I can guarantee that whoever wins the Champions League this season will have had some luck somewhere along the line and it was the little bit of luck that Liverpool needed.

We saw Real Madrid concede three at home last night to Juventus and we know that Liverpool’s front three will cause problems for any side, so there is certainly nobody to fear for them.

Liverpool at Anfield is a tough proposition for anybody and the atmosphere in the semi-final will be incredible.

It will be a case of teams being more worried about facing Liverpool than the other way round and Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Roma will all be hoping to avoid them.

I said before this tie that I would make my judgement on who I think has been the player of the year between Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne after the Champions League tie – and with Salah being outstanding in both games, I would have to give it to him.

He’s in the kind of form where he will stand in the tunnel before a game knowing that he is going to score. That is a great feeling to have as a player.
