Nice next logical step in managerial development of Vieira

Gunners legend to take next step in managerial development…

Former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira is on the cusp of accepting the vacant managers’ position at Ligue 1 side, OGC Nice.

The Frenchman is currently the head coach of MLS club New York City. But with Lucien Favre taking over at Borussia Dortmund, the Cote d’Azur outfit reportedly want Vieira to take charge.

The Allianz Riviera could be the perfect place for the 41-year-old to continue his coaching career. And the Coral News Team set out some reasons why…

Primed to play his style

Nice have played some of the most attractive football in France under Favre. And Vieira – as a coach – also wants the game played in that fashion.

His New York City side employ a lovely passing style and it should be an easy transition for the former Gooner.

Vieira will likely retain a head coach role under a sporting director which will continue the policy he enjoys in MLS.

Home comforts

Having been interviewed for the Arsenal job and turned down, a move home to France seems a better step right now.

The glare and pressure that comes with a Premier League job would either make or break Vieira. But now, at Nice, at least there’s a little less expectation and he can work under a less intense microscope.

Plus, if he does take the reins there, he’s likely to lose his two best players in Mario Balotelli and Jean Michael Seri. That should further lighten any burden to automatically succeed.

Reputation to make up for inexperience

By losing Balotelli and Seri, Vieira will be left with a lot of Nice’s young aces to work with.

But maybe that’s not a bad thing. The likes of Wylan Cyprien, Malang Sarr, Nampalys Mendy, and Alassane Plea will be in awe of the World Cup winner.

And Vieira has done sterling work previously with Manchester City’s U-23 side and New York City’s youth, too.

It could be a match made in heaven for both parties.
