Three Lions legend shares his take on Tunisia win

There were certainly far more positives than negatives from England’s win over Tunisia. It was a very good result and nobody could say that they didn’t deserve it!

We saw plenty of energy, intent, running in behind and we should have been at least three goals up at half-time.

The one negative would have only been that despite being so dominant, that we weren’t ahead at the break.

Against the bigger teams we won’t get quite as many chances so we will have to take them more frequently going forward, but we got there in the end and it was a good result to start the tournament.

Harry Kane really stepped up when his country needed him, and that’s what you always look to your captain to do.

His second was a really good header which he made look a whole lot easier than it was and it will be a big confidence boost to him and the team ahead of the rest of the tournament.

I didn’t think it was a penalty that Kyle Walker conceded. However, when you raise your arm as he did in the box then you do run the risk of being penalised, so you can see why it was given.

We probably should have then had two penalties ourselves, with Kane dragged to the ground on both occasions.

It was really important to start with a win. We were always going to talk about Iceland until we won a game in the World Cup and to get a victory in the first game can allow us to continue on to play with greater confidence and belief.
