NFL 2018: 6/1 NE Patriots lead outright betting; Steelers next-best
Plenty of changes across the board this summer
The NFL returns with a bang this weekend. The opening weekend throws up an iconic clash with Chicago Bears v Green Bay Packers, There’s also an all-California clash at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, and much more.
Ahead of the season, the Coral News Team look at who’s in the running for glory this season – and what’s changed during the off-season.
Last year’s beaten Super Bowl finalists, New England Patriots at 6/1 are the favourites to regain the trophy this season.
The bulk of their roster looks largely similar, though there have been a few notable additions – including talented running-back Jeremy Hill from Cincinnati Bengals.
Pittsburgh Steelers notched up a 13-3 record in the 2017 regular season, before a shock 45-42 playoff loss at home to Jacksonville Jaguars.
They’ve drafted a number of defensive players this summer, following a leaky record at the back last year. The Steelers are 9/1 to win the Super Bowl for the first time in a decade.
The rise of the Los Angeles Rams can be neatly outlined by the fact they’re 2/5 hot favourites for victory away at Oakland Raiders this weekend.
The Rams have made few changes this summer, though former Miami Dolphins tackle Ndamukong Suh could be a huge addition. Sean McVay’s side are 10/1 to win the Super Bowl.
At the same price are holders Philadelphia Eagles. They’ve brought in a raft of new additions, with head coach Doug Pederson looking to boost on their 2017 triumph.
NFC North pair Minnesota Vikings (11/1) and Green Bay Packers (12/1) are next in the betting. The Vikings were 13-3 last term, with the Pack finishing on a poor 7-9. But the battle for supremacy in the North could be much tighter this term.
Meanwhile, the Jacksonville Jaguars are 18/1 following their push to the final four last season. Much will depend on the form of Quarterback Blake Bortles, who threw for over 4,000 yards last season.
Having reached the playoffs five times since 2010 – including a Super Bowl appearance in 2016 – Atlanta Falcons could well be competitive again.
They still boast Quarter Back Matt Ryan, but questions remain over their fortitude after a string of narrow defeats last season. The Falcons are 20/1 for glory.
Meanwhile, 50/1 shots Chicago Bears could be surprise challengers. Despite a dismal 2017, they’ve splashed the big bucks this summer. That’s included an all-time record NFL defensive player deal to prise Khalil Mack from the Raiders.
