Racing Tips: Can Lah Ti Dar hold off Kew Gardens for Leger glory?
Odds, tips and preview for St Leger day
The final Classic of the season takes place this afternoon, as Lah Ti Dar, Kew Gardens and 10 others do battle in the 242nd running of the St Leger from Doncaster.
ITV will be on hand to cover every millisecond of the famous 1m 6f test, alongside two races from Chester and a further three from Yorkshire.
The Coral News Team have previewed it all with their ITV Racing Tips.
Lah Ti Dar – 3:35 Doncaster
After much deliberation throughout the week, Lah Ti Dar was finally confirmed to run in the St Leger on Wednesday afternoon. It could prove an inspired decision. The three-year-old is unbeaten in a hat-trick of starts and bolted up on her reappearance to take a Listed contest at Goodwood by 10l.
Make no mistake, this is a tougher task. But John Gosden’s filly has a clear air of something special about her.
She’s won her three races by a combined distance of 22l and also comes out on top in the trends. The daughter of Dubawi should take the step up in both class and trip in her stride, with Frankie Dettori the ideal booking as he bids for his sixth Leger.
Mustashry – 2:25 Doncaster
The decision to supplement Mustashry for this 7f renewal should give some idea of the confidence entrusted in the five-year-old by connections.
Sir Michael Stoute’s runner returned to action following a 250-day layoff with victory in a Listed contest at Sandown in July. He followed that up with a solid runners-up berth to consistent Group 1 performer Lord Glitters at York last month.
After travelling strongly in previous races, this drop in trip should be right up the selection’s street. Jim Crowley will pilot the Tamayuz gelding – you can read his thoughts on the runner here.
Bye Bye Hong Kong – 3:00 Doncaster
Too Darn Hot should prove too darn good for her rivals in the Champagne Stakes. But with six runners pencilled in to tackle the 7f sprint, Bye Bye Hong Kong makes plenty of appeal on each-way terms.
Andrew Balding’s colt won a decent enough novice contest at Windsor last month and looks potentially smart. He’ll need to take a big step up to challenge, but if one or two of his rivals fail to live up to expectations, he should be on the premises to sweep up at a big price.
ITV Racing tips:
1:50 Doncaster – Holmeswood
2:05 Chester – Always Resolute
2:25 Doncaster – Mustashry
2:40 Chester – Hochfeld
3:00 Doncaster – Bye Bye Hong Kong (each-way)
3:35 Doncaster – Lah Ti Dar
