Tom Scudamore: “I think the 4m trip will suit Daklondike perfectly.”
Racing ambassador discusses his weekend rides
Saturday – Newcastle
Daklondike will need to do much better than his last run in the Peter Marsh Chase. Before that though, he ran a cracker at Haydock where he was victorious on heavy ground.
He has a lot of weight to carry here but that’s the way it is because he is rated as the best horse in the race.
I think the 4m trip will suit him perfectly. The ground is drying up and to be honest, he probably would prefer it with a bit of juice in the surface but that isn’t concerning me too much and I think we have an excellent chance.
I have won the Eider Chase twice, in 2007 with Nil Desperandum and then again in 2014 with Wyck Hill.
They were both good horses but Daklondike is not too far behind them. He is still young and improving so let’s hope for a big run from him.
The last two winners of the race are in the field and looking at it, I think if Daklondike is in the right frame of mind, he is the one they all have to beat.
Sunday – Fontwell
He ran well last week in the Grade Two Kingwell Hurdle at Wincanton. He is a really nice horse and has never let anyone down.
I won a good race on him at Exeter last season. It is a very competitive contest he is in here but he has a solid each-way chance.
He won a point-point last year but then since then his two runs have been a little disappointing.
Those two starts were on Soft ground though so we are hoping he will enjoy the drying out conditions this weekend which should bring an improvement out of him.
