Odds and preview ahead of Premier League clash

Three days after ending Manchester City’s hopes of a famous quadruple, Tottenham Hotspur return to the Etihad Stadium looking to put a dent in their title charge too.

City ran out 4-3 winners in Wednesday night’s Champions League match, but that wasn’t good enough to see them through to the semi-finals.

Spurs will be jubilant after that result, and could use it as a springboard to mount a late charge to third-place in the Premier League.

Who’ll come out on top in this one? We’ve got all the odds and info ahead of kick-off, with the match live on Sky Sports Main Event from 12:30pm…

Head-to-head

City have won four of the last five matches against Spurs, with the 1-0 defeat in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final the only blot on the copy book.

The Cityzen’s have also won their last two against the Lilywhites at the Etihad, with both games being high-scoring affairs. Wednesday’s 4-3 win was preceded by a 4-1 win in December 2017.

Likely XIs

Man City vs Spurs - Football tactics and formations

Man City: Ederson; Walker, Stones, Laporte, Mendy; De Bruyne, Fernandinho, D.Silva; Sterling, Aguero, Sane.

Tottenham: Lloris; Trippier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose; Wanyama, Sissoko, Alli, Eriksen, Lucas; Son.

Pep Guardiola could look to include Fernandinho from this off this time after his presence was missed during the Champions League tie.

Leroy Sane offers a more direct threat than Bernardo Silva, which could see the German included over the Portuguese wizard.

Spurs have more than enough injury concerns to worry about, which may see Mauricio Pochettino stick with the same XI that played Wednesday night.

Moussa Sissoko faces a fitness test, but should be good enough for an inclusion in the side. Eric Dier is expected back anytime now, but it could be too soon for a start.

Son Heung-Min is filling Harry Kane’s boots while he’s missing, and he’s doing a great job of it too. He’s expected to retain his spot despite Fernando Llorente’s late goal.

Key Battles

Son Heung-Min celebrates his goal at the Etihad Stadium.

Raheem Sterling had the beating of Danny Rose on Wednesday, so the left-back will need to ensure he’s got a grip of him this time around.

The same goes for Son Heung-Min and the City back-line. Guardiola may feel he needs to refresh his centre-back pairing so the Korean has more to think about during the game.

De Bruyne created a sensational goal for Aguero midweek with a pass that was almost matched by the finish from the Argentine. Spurs will need to close them down and restrict their creativity, with the potential of a backlash on the back of City’s Champions League exit.

Match Odds

The Cityzens are the favourites to maintain their title charge at the Etihad, sitting at 2/7 to claim a crucial three points.

Spurs still have their own battle to fight, looking to clinch onto a top-four spot that they currently occupy. Their form has faltered of late and they’ve let a commanding lead in that race slip. They’re 10/1 to win here.

Aguero is the top scorer in the league this season with 19 goals so far. He’ll be looking to add at least another and fire City ever closer to another title. He’s a 14/5 favourite to score first, or you can find 5/6 on him scoring anytime.

Son Heung-Min is Spurs’ talisman for the time being, and he can’t stop scoring. He’s 17/2 to open the scoring, or 14/5 says he scores anytime.

Sterling scored twice in both the 4-1 and 4-3 victories over Spurs at the Etihad. Can he bag another brace and add to his 17 league goals? That’s 9/2.
